Hussein Ahdieh is travelling, generating interest in his upcoming book,
Awakening: A History of the Bábi and Bahá’í Faiths in Nayriz.

Hussein, with the help of several friends, has created an intriguing presentation that highlights
the birth and growth of the Faith in Nayriz since 1850. It focuses on the heroic exploits of Vahíd
and the inhabitants of Nayriz who embraced the message of the Báb in 1850, their struggle in
Khajih Fortress, the martyrdom of Vahid, subsequent upheavals in 1853 and 1909, and the suffering of the
survivors of those upheavals in the hands of a ruthless enemy. It also highlights the evolution of
the Bahá'í community in Nayriz and sheds new light on the role of strong, dedicated Bábi and
Bahá'í women.

Additionally, the presentation unveils a collection of tablets from Bahá’u’lláh and ‘Abdu’l-Bahá to Hussein’s
ancestors or to the people of Nayriz. For many years, members of Hussein’s family safeguarded the
tablets, especially during periods of active persecution. The tablets eventually were carried to
Haifa for safekeeping. Hussein has arranged to have the tablets restored, digitally enhanced
and tastefully decorated.
So far Hussein has spoken to captivated audiences at Green Acre, Louhelen and Bosch Bahá’í schools as well as Acuto, Italy and Izmir, Turkey with
other presentations scheduled.
